For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Tirzah……..mother of 4 beautiful children, sister to some of the most amazing siblings in the world, daughter of the best Father I could have ever been blessed with AND lover of design!!! Can I stress that please??!!! I love design….always have and don’t see that ever changing, EVER! Since as far back as I can remember I was obsessed with how my surroundings looked. I made a realization at a young age that those surroundings affected my state of mind and how I felt. As a result, I decorated my room for fun instead of playing with Barbies, organized my closet when my peers were playing hide and go seek, trimmed the plants in the yard for aesthetic purposes when my friends were playing in the park. Ill admit, I was a bit odd for a child but point is, I was born this way and the insatiable desire to decorate, organize and revamp continues to this day.
When I was first married I was given the opportunity to spread my design wings in a family business called Lacey Ellen. It was a retail storefront where I truly learned about Home Retail and Design. My personal homes were featured in decorating magazines like Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset and Country Home. I realized that people were connecting with the 'real-ness' of my design……it was pretty to look at but practical and very livable too. It had to be, as I had 4 kids and they were all babes when these articles were printed. As I look back during that time, I realize that they were my inspiration for what started my signature look which, though constantly evolving, still incorporates the blending of old and new with layers of texture, neutral backdrops, organic elements and most importantly, comfort, comfort, comfort! This is what I truly believe a well designed space has to incorporate, as the whole point of having a beautiful home is to be able to enjoy it and live in it, not just look at it! Right??!!! And of course that childhood realization of how our personal environment affects us is the message I wanted people to understand and appreciate as I truly believe it only helps to make us better human beings.
And so fast forward to now, 26 years later (thats right, I said 26 years later!!!). My brother Jonathan and I have had Filthy Gorgeous, our home store for 10 years! With our various TV appearances, our design book, Family Spaces, and our tons of interior design clients, its time to try to reach out to more of you on a regular basis, as Im not able to see you in person as much as Id like. My kids are all grown and on their own, for the most part :), Im in my new home that I just bought last year….its my 1940s (and I say this with complete affection though Im not yet a grandma) ‘Grandma House’ that Im thoroughly enjoying…...and I want to reach out to you all and share some of the things Ive been blessed to learn as Ive been on my design journey. I get so many questions when I meet with people about how to do various things and what better way to share some of those things than this? I hope we become fast friends and more than anything I hope to inspire you with the love I have for making things just a little more beautiful, calm and cozy in this crazy world. Heres to us and Filthy Gorgeous Design!
